Global semiconductor sales reached a record $146.8 billion in July 2026, up 135.1% from a year earlier and more than twice any previous July (SIA, three-month average). WSTS now expects the 2026 market to reach $1.51 trillion, 89.9% above 2025.
The main driver is memory. AI data centers are buying high-bandwidth and server memory faster than it can be produced, and prices have risen sharply. WSTS forecasts memory sales up about 250% this year, to more than $800 billion, against 37% growth for logic and single-digit growth for several other product groups. Gartner estimates that 2026 prices will rise 125% for DRAM and 234% for NAND flash, with no meaningful relief expected until late 2027. TrendForce reports that conventional DRAM contract prices rose 93% to 98% in the first quarter alone.
Independent analysts describe the same pattern. Omdia states that current revenue growth “is being driven primarily by higher average selling prices rather than unit shipment volumes.” Germany’s distributor association FBDi reported second-quarter bookings up 113.3% and memory sales up 232.1%. Its managing director, Andreas Falke, attributed a large part of the growth to steep price increases in certain segments and to inventory building rather than end demand.
The broader component market is growing more slowly. In Japan, integrated circuit production rose 64.8% in July, while passive components rose 0.5% (JEITA).
Price increases are now slowing. TrendForce expects conventional DRAM contract prices to rise 13% to 18% in the third quarter, down from nearly 100% in the first. Gartner cautions that high memory prices could hold back demand outside AI into 2028. With orders running well ahead of shipments in Germany, the next few quarters will show how much of this year’s demand was stockpiling.
