Industrial Production In Euro Area Falls 2.1% Sequentially In December

Seasonally adjusted industrial production for December fell by 2.1% in the euro area (EA19) and by 2.0% in the EU27, according to estimates from Eurostat.  Captial goods took the brunt of the hit.

In November 2019, industrial production was flat in both the euro area and in the EU27

In December 2019 compared with December 2018, industrial production decreased by 4.1% in the euro area and by 3.9% in the EU27.  The average industrial production for the year 2019, compared with 2018, fell by 1.7% in the euro area and by 1.1% in the EU27.

Among the member countries, the largest sequential declines were posted in Ireland (-6.2%), Hungary (-3.8%) and Poland (-3.0%).  The highest increases were observed in Denmark (+7.2%), Portugal (+2.9%) and Greece (+2.5%).
